Newsletter subscribers

If you subscribe, we store your email address — nothing else. No name, no location, no interests.

It is held by our email provider, Resend, and used only to send the weekly digest. We do not sell, rent, or share subscriber addresses, and we do not use them for anything other than the digest you signed up for.

Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. To have your address deleted outright rather than just marked unsubscribed, email ainformed@proton.me and we will remove it.

Analytics

We use three tools to see which stories are read and how fast pages load. They differ in how much they retain about you, so they are described separately.

Google Analytics — sets cookies

Google Analytics stores cookies on your device (named _ga and similar) containing a randomly generated identifier. That identifier lets Google recognise the same browser across visits, so we can see returning readers rather than only page counts. It also receives your IP address, which Google uses to derive an approximate location and then discards.

We use it for aggregate reporting only. We do not link it to your email address, we have not enabled Google Signals or advertising personalisation, and we do not use it to build advertising audiences. Google is a separate company and processes this data under its own privacy policy.

To opt out entirely, use Google's browser opt-out add-on, block cookies for this site, or use any tracker-blocking extension — the site works exactly the same either way.

Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights — no cookies

These measure page views and loading performance. Both are cookieless and aggregate: they do not store an identifier on your device and cannot recognise you on a later visit.

We run no advertising scripts and sell no data to anyone.

Server logs

Our host, Vercel, records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) as a normal part of serving the site. These are used for security and debugging, are retained for a short period by Vercel, and are not combined with subscriber data.

Links out

Every article links to the original source. Once you follow a link you are on someone else's site under their privacy policy, not ours.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, EU, or another jurisdiction with data protection rights, you can ask us to confirm what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. The only thing we hold directly is a newsletter email address, so this is usually a one-line request. Email ainformed@proton.me and we will respond within 30 days.

Analytics data is a separate matter: it is not tied to your name or email, so we cannot look up “your” records in it. To remove yourself from it, opt out or block cookies as described under Analytics above — that stops collection at source, which is more effective than a deletion request after the fact.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the bottom of this page changes with it. See also our editorial policy for how the content itself is produced, and our terms of service for the rules that govern using the site.
